Aadi Amavasai Wallpapers
Aadi Amavasai is an important day in the Tamil month of Aadi (July-August), observed as the new moon day dedicated to honoring deceased ancestors. While Pitru Paksha is the primary ancestor worship period in North India, Aadi Amavasai serves a similar purpose in Tamil Nadu. Devotees travel to sacred rivers and temple tanks to perform tarpan (water libation) and pinda daan (rice ball offerings) for their departed forefathers. The most important center for Aadi Amavasai rituals is Rameswaram, where thousands perform rituals at the Agni Theertham beach. Other major centers include Kanchipuram, Vaitheeswaran Koil, Thiruvidaimaruthur, and various rivers across Tamil Nadu. Families prepare special food without garlic and onion, and the day is observed as inauspicious for new beginnings. Many Tamils combine the ancestral rituals with a visit to the Navagraha temples in the Kumbakonam region. The tradition reinforces the Hindu belief in maintaining a connection with ancestors and seeking their blessings for the prosperity and protection of the family.
