Bohag Bihu Wallpapers

Bohag Bihu, also known as Rongali Bihu, is the Assamese New Year and the most important festival of Assam, celebrated from April 14-20. It marks the beginning of the Assamese calendar and the onset of spring and the agricultural season. The seven-day celebration begins with Goru Bihu (cattle day), where cattle are bathed, decorated with turmeric, and fed special food. The second day is Manuh Bihu (human day), when people wear new clothes, exchange gifts (bihuwan — traditional gamosa towels), and visit elders. The following days feature community Bihu dances performed by young men and women in open fields, accompanied by the dhol (drum), pepa (buffalo horn pipe), gogona (bamboo instrument), and toka (bamboo clapper). The Bihu dance is characterized by rapid hip and arm movements symbolizing joy and fertility. Feasting includes pitha, jolpan, and doi-chira (curd with flattened rice). Bihu is celebrated across all of Assam regardless of religion, caste, or tribe, making it the most unifying cultural event of the state.
