Bonalu Wallpapers

Bonalu is a traditional Hindu festival dedicated to Goddess Mahakali, celebrated primarily in Telangana and parts of Andhra Pradesh during the month of Ashada (July-August). The word Bonalu derives from Bhojanalu, meaning meals or offerings. Women carry decorated brass or earthen pots (bonam) filled with cooked rice, jaggery, curd, and neem leaves on their heads to Mahakali temples. The processions feature traditional Potharaju dancers smeared in turmeric who dance energetically while lashing themselves with whips. The festival originated at the Golconda Fort area of Hyderabad and is celebrated with immense fervor at the Ujjaini Mahankali Temple in Secunderabad, Lal Darwaza temple, and Balkampet Yellamma temple. Bonalu became a state festival of Telangana after its formation in 2014. The celebrations include elaborate rangoli, animal sacrifices in some areas, and community feasting. The festival reflects the strong mother goddess worship tradition of the Deccan region.
