Chapchar Kut Wallpapers

Chapchar Kut is the most popular spring festival of the Mizo people, celebrated in Mizoram in March after completing the most arduous task of jhum cultivation — the clearing and burning of jungle for shifting agriculture. The word Chapchar refers to the flat bamboo platform on which people sit after clearing the jungle. The festival is a time of community rejoicing, marking the end of hard labor and the beginning of the sowing season. Celebrations feature the traditional Cheraw dance (bamboo dance), where dancers step rhythmically between pairs of bamboo poles clapped together at increasing speed. Men and women wear traditional Mizo attire including the puanchei (colorful handwoven cloth) and perform various folk dances. The festival includes community feasting with traditional rice beer (zu) and pork dishes. First celebrated in its modern form in 1973, Chapchar Kut has become Mizoram state festival, held in Aizawl with cultural competitions, beauty contests, and sports events that bring together Mizo communities from across the state.
