Hemis Sheshnag Naag Puja Wallpapers

Gangasagar Mela is one of the largest religious gatherings in India, held annually on Makar Sankranti (January 14-15) at the confluence of the Ganges River and the Bay of Bengal on Sagar Island in West Bengal. The saying Sab tirathon ka hai raja, jahan Ganga sagar mein samaye (Gangasagar is the king of all pilgrimages, where the Ganges meets the ocean) reflects its supreme importance in Hindu pilgrimage tradition. Over three million devotees brave the winter cold to take a holy dip at the sangam (confluence) point, believing it washes away all sins. The Kapil Muni Temple on the island is the focal point of the mela, as the sage Kapila is connected to the legend of King Sagara whose sons were turned to ash here. Pilgrims come from West Bengal, Bihar, Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh, Odisha, and other eastern states. The West Bengal government sets up temporary infrastructure including tent cities, medical facilities, and transportation. The event rivals the Kumbh Mela in spiritual significance for eastern Indian devotees and is the largest annual fair in West Bengal.
