Gurpurab Guru Gobind Singh Wallpapers
Guru Gobind Singh Jayanti celebrates the birth anniversary of the tenth and last human Sikh Guru, observed according to the Nanakshahi calendar, usually falling in December or January. Guru Gobind Singh (1666-1708) was a warrior-saint who founded the Khalsa, compiled the Dasam Granth, and declared the Guru Granth Sahib as the eternal guru of the Sikhs. The celebration is marked by special prayer sessions, akhand path (continuous reading of the Guru Granth Sahib), and nagar kirtan processions at gurdwaras across India, particularly at Patna Sahib (his birthplace in Bihar), Anandpur Sahib, and the Golden Temple. Prabhat pheris (early morning processions) are held in the days leading up to the celebration. Langars serve food to millions. The Nihang Sikhs perform martial displays. The occasion is a national holiday and is celebrated with great devotion in Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Bihar, Rajasthan, and wherever Sikh communities reside. The Guru teachings of courage, equality, and selfless service are remembered through speeches and kirtan.
