Losar Wallpapers

Losar is the Tibetan and Himalayan Buddhist New Year, celebrated across Ladakh, Sikkim, Arunachal Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh (Spiti and Lahaul), and among Tibetan refugee communities in Dharamsala and across India. The three-day festival typically falls in February or March and marks the beginning of the lunisolar Tibetan calendar. Preparations begin weeks in advance with thorough cleaning of homes, preparation of special foods like khapse (fried pastries) and guthuk (a special noodle soup), and the creation of decorative offerings called chemar (a wooden container with tsampa and barley). On New Year Eve, monasteries hold special prayer ceremonies. The first day is reserved for family gatherings, exchange of gifts, wearing new clothes, and visiting monasteries. Monks perform sacred Cham dances at major monasteries. In Ladakh, Losar is celebrated as Losar festival with archery competitions and polo matches. In Sikkim, Kagyed dance performances mark the occasion at Rumtek and other monasteries.
