Saga Dawa Sikkim Wallpapers
Losoong is the Sikkimese New Year festival celebrated in December by the Bhutia community and is one of the most important festivals of Sikkim. It marks the end of the harvest season and the tenth month of the Tibetan calendar. The celebrations last for about a month and feature the colorful Cham dance performed by monks at major monasteries including Rumtek, Phodong, and Tsuklakhang. The masked dances depict the victory of good over evil, with monks wearing elaborate costumes representing various Buddhist deities, demons, and animals. The secular celebrations include the Kagyed dance at Phodong and Rumtek monasteries. On the streets, the Bhutia community performs the traditional Yak dance and Snow Lion dance. The Lepcha community celebrates the same period as Namsoong, their own new year festival with nature worship rituals. Archery competitions are held across the state. The festival provides a vivid experience of Sikkim Buddhist cultural heritage and attracts tourists from across India and abroad.
