Magh Bihu Wallpapers
Magh Bihu, also known as Bhogali Bihu, is the harvest festival of Assam celebrated in mid-January, marking the end of the harvesting season. The word Bhogali comes from bhog (feasting), reflecting the central role of food in the celebrations. On the eve of Magh Bihu (Uruka), communities build temporary bamboo structures called meji and bhelaghar (huts) in open fields, where groups of men gather for a communal feast featuring traditional Assamese dishes like pitha (rice cakes), laru (coconut-jaggery balls), jolpan (flattened rice snacks), and various meat preparations. The next morning, the meji structures are ceremonially burned, with offerings of betel nut and turmeric thrown into the fire. The ashes are scattered in agricultural fields for fertility. Traditional buffalo fights, egg fights, and pot-breaking competitions are held. While Rongali Bihu (Bohag Bihu in April) is more widely known, Magh Bihu is the most food-centric festival of Assam and reflects the agrarian soul of the state.
