Me-Dam-Me-Phi Wallpapers

Me-Dam-Me-Phi is the most important festival of the Tai-Ahom community of Assam, observed on January 31 each year. It is an ancestor worship ceremony where the Ahom people pay homage to their departed ancestors and the supreme god Lengdon. The name translates to offering to the gods and ancestors (Me-Dam for ancestors, Me-Phi for gods). Rituals involve offering food, rice beer, betel nut, and other items on an altar called Damkhosang. A priest performs the ceremony invoking the spirits of ancestors. The festival reinforces the Ahom identity and their unique cultural heritage, which ruled Assam for nearly 600 years (1228-1826). Celebrations include traditional Ahom music, dance, and community feasting. The festival was given state recognition in Assam and is now a public holiday. Events are held at historical Ahom sites including Charaideo (the burial ground of Ahom kings, now a UNESCO World Heritage Site) and Sivasagar. The festival preserves the syncretic religious traditions of the Ahom people.
