Minjar Mela Wallpapers

Minjar Mela is a week-long harvest festival celebrated in Chamba, Himachal Pradesh, during the month of August. The festival begins on the second Sunday of Shravana and celebrates the ripening of maize and paddy crops in the Chamba valley. The word Minjar refers to the silk-like tassel of the maize plant, which is worn by people as a good luck charm during the festival. The celebration begins with a flag hoisting ceremony at the Chaugan ground (the historic parade ground in the heart of Chamba) and features cultural performances, traditional music, and a grand procession of deities from local temples. The week-long fair showcases Chamba handicrafts, especially the famous Chamba Rumal (embroidered textile), Pahari miniature paintings, and Chamba Chappal (traditional footwear). On the final day, a grand procession culminates at the Ravi River where the Minjar tassels and a coconut are offered to the river. The festival has been celebrated for over a thousand years and was historically patronized by the Chamba kings.
