Paryushana Wallpapers

Paryushana is the most important annual festival of the Jain community, observed during the monsoon season (August-September) as a period of intense spiritual practice. Svetambara Jains observe Paryushana for eight days, while Digambara Jains observe Das Lakshana for ten days, though both may overlap. During this period, Jains intensify their practices of fasting, prayer, meditation, and study of scriptures. Many observe complete fasting (some for the entire eight or ten days), while others take only water or boiled water. The final day, Samvatsari, is the most significant, when Jains seek forgiveness from all living beings by saying Micchami Dukkadam (may all my faults be forgiven). The Kalpa Sutra, describing the life of Mahavira, is recited in Jain temples. In Gujarat, Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, and Karnataka, where Jain communities are concentrated, the celebrations involve community prayers, lectures by monks and nuns, and acts of charity. Paryushana reinforces the core Jain principles of ahimsa (non-violence), truth, and self-discipline.
