Poush Mela Wallpapers
Poush Mela is a famous fair and cultural festival held annually in the last week of December at Shantiniketan, the campus of Visva-Bharati University founded by Rabindranath Tagore in Bolpur, West Bengal. Started in 1894 when Maharshi Debendranath Tagore (Rabindranath father) initiated a Brahmo prayer meeting, it has evolved into a major cultural celebration attracting hundreds of thousands of visitors. The three-day fair features Baul music (the mystical folk tradition of Bengal), Rabindra Sangeet performances, folk dances, and live performances by renowned artists on multiple stages. The handicraft fair showcases traditional Bengali crafts including kantha embroidery, terracotta work, batik, and dokra metal casting from artisans across rural Bengal and neighboring states. Traditional Bengali food stalls serve pithe-puli (winter rice cakes), moa (puffed rice balls), and patishapta. The fair begins with a Brahmo prayer on the 7th of Poush. The event preserves Tagore vision of celebrating rural arts and folk culture and has become a must-visit cultural experience in eastern India.
