Sammakka Saralamma Jatara Wallpapers

Sammakka Saralamma Jatara, also known as Medaram Jatara, is the largest tribal festival in Asia, held biennially (every two years) in the Medaram village of Mulugu district in Telangana. However, smaller annual celebrations also take place. The festival honors the tribal goddesses Sammakka and her daughter Saralamma, who fought against the Kakatiya dynasty to protect their people. Over 10 million devotees visit during the four-day festival, making it the second-largest human gathering in India after the Kumbh Mela. Tribal and non-tribal devotees from Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Karnataka, and Odisha participate. Devotees offer jaggery (bellam) equal to their body weight as a thanksgiving offering. The ritual involves bringing the goddesses from the forest to the Jatara site with elaborate processions. The festival represents the unique syncretic tradition where tribal deities are worshipped within the broader Hindu framework.
