Sarhul Wallpapers
Sarhul is the most important spring festival of the tribal communities of Jharkhand, particularly the Munda, Oraon, Ho, and Santhal tribes. Celebrated when the sal trees bloom in March-April, the festival marks the beginning of the new year and the spring season. The word Sarhul means worship of the sal tree, which is considered sacred by the tribal communities. The village priest (Pahan) performs rituals at the sacred grove (Sarna), worshipping the earth goddess and ancestors. He observes the sal flowers to predict the monsoon and harvest. Three flowers are kept overnight in water — if they bloom by morning, it predicts a good harvest. Traditional rice beer (handia) is brewed and distributed to the community. The Pahan applies sal flowers on the foreheads of villagers as blessings. Women wear sal flowers in their hair. Traditional dances are performed with drums (mandar and nagara) and other instruments. The festival emphasizes the tribal communities deep connection with nature. Sarhul is now a state holiday in Jharkhand and is also observed in tribal areas of Odisha, West Bengal, and Chhattisgarh.
