Thrissur Pooram Wallpapers

Thrissur Pooram is the most spectacular temple festival in Kerala, held annually at the Vadakkunnathan Temple in Thrissur during the Malayalam month of Medam. Instituted by Raja Rama Varma (Sakthan Thampuran) in the late 18th century, it features a grand meeting of deities from ten participating temples. The festival is famous for its magnificent elephant processions, with two rows of fifteen caparisoned elephants each, bearing the deities from the Paramekkavu and Thiruvambadi temples, facing each other while attendants rhythmically exchange colorful parasols (kudamattam) to the beat of traditional percussion. The Ilanjithara Melam is a massive percussion ensemble of over 200 musicians playing chenda, kombu, and other instruments. The festival concludes with a spectacular all-night fireworks display considered the grandest in Asia. Thrissur Pooram attracts over a million visitors and represents the cultural zenith of Kerala temple festivals.
