Jagannath Snan Yatra Ahmedabad Wallpapers
Uttarayan, the International Kite Festival, is Gujarat most iconic festival celebrated on January 14, coinciding with Makar Sankranti. It marks the end of winter and the northward journey of the sun (Uttarayan literally means northward movement). The entire state, especially Ahmedabad, transforms into a kite-flying spectacle with millions of colorful kites filling the sky from dawn to dusk. Rooftops become battlegrounds for kite-fighting (patang), where participants try to cut each other strings using specially prepared glass-coated string (manjha). The festival is so significant that it is an official holiday in Gujarat. The skies above Ahmedabad, Surat, Vadodara, and Rajkot are darkened by thousands of kites of all shapes and sizes. Traditional food like undhiyu (mixed vegetable casserole) and jalebi (sweet) are prepared in every household. An international kite festival in Ahmedabad draws kite enthusiasts from over 30 countries. After dark, illuminated kites (tukkals) light up the night sky. The festival generates tremendous community spirit and is quintessentially Gujarati.
