Wangala Festival Wallpapers
Wangala, also known as the 100 Drums Festival, is the most important harvest festival of the Garo tribe of Meghalaya, celebrated after the harvest season in November. It is a thanksgiving to Misi Saljong, the Sun God of fertility, marking the end of the agricultural season. The festival is celebrated across the Garo Hills districts of Meghalaya, and also in Garo-inhabited areas of Assam and Nagaland. The highlight is the 100 Drums ceremony where drummers play long cylindrical drums called dama in synchronized rhythm while performers dance wearing traditional attire decorated with feathers, beads, and hornbill feathers. The Nokma (village chief) initiates the festival by offering the first harvest grain and rice beer to Misi Saljong. Traditional Garo food, rice wine, and community feasting are integral parts of the celebration. The two-day festival features traditional sports, buffalo fights, and the iconic horn-blowing ceremony. It represents the vibrant indigenous cultural identity of the Garo people of Northeast India.
