Yaoshang Wallpapers

Yaoshang is the Manipuri version of Holi, celebrated for five days in the month of Lamda (February-March) and is one of the most colorful festivals of Manipur. The celebration begins on the full moon day of Phalguna with the burning of a thatched hut structure called yaoshang, symbolizing the burning of Holika. The unique feature of Manipuri Yaoshang is the Thabal Chongba, a traditional moonlit dance where young men and women hold hands and dance in a circle around a bonfire, singing folk songs. This courtship dance is an important social event for the Meitei youth. Children go door to door collecting nakatheng (monetary gifts) from elders. The festival also features traditional sports, the Manipuri Ras Leela dance (a classical dance form depicting Krishna Leela), and the playing of colors on the final day. Unlike the North Indian Holi where colors dominate, Manipuri Yaoshang blends Vaishnavite devotion with indigenous Meitei traditions, creating a unique cultural expression found nowhere else in India.
