About this image
A stunning photorealistic rendering of Moroccan zellige tilework — the ancient art of hand-cut mosaic tiles that has been practiced in Morocco for over a thousand years. Interlocking geometric shapes in vibrant cobalt blue, pristine white, emerald green, and warm terracotta create a hypnotic pattern that draws the eye into its mathematical complexity. Each tiny tile (tessera) in authentic zellige is individually hand-chiseled from larger glazed tiles and assembled into these intricate patterns by master craftsmen (maallems) who train for 8-10 years. The resulting mosaics adorn the walls, floors, and fountains of Morocco's most beautiful riads, hammams, and mosques — from the Bou Inania Madrasa in Fez to the Hassan II Mosque in Casablanca.
