About this image
A beautiful and faithful reproduction of the iconic image of Our Lady of Guadalupe (Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe), the most venerated Marian image in all of Latin America. Standing on a crescent moon supported by a cherub angel, the Virgin Mary is wrapped in a turquoise-green mantle adorned with gold stars, over a rose-colored dress with golden floral patterns. Golden sun rays radiate behind her entire figure in a mandorla of divine light. Her hands are joined in prayer, her eyes cast downward in humility and compassion. This miraculous image first appeared on the tilma (cloak) of Saint Juan Diego in December 1531 on Tepeyac Hill near Mexico City. When Juan Diego opened his cloak before Bishop Zumárraga, dozens of out-of-season roses tumbled out and this image was miraculously imprinted on the rough cactus-fiber fabric. Nearly 500 years later, the original tilma remains on display at the Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe — the most visited Catholic shrine in the world, drawing over 10 million pilgrims annually. Her feast day is December 12th. This wallpaper is cherished by millions of Catholic faithful, especially in Mexico and throughout the Americas.
