Wednesday Blessings! Be a light in someone's day -- this quiet, powerful image says everything with very little. A single candle flame burns steadily in darkness, its warm golden light casting the shadow of a cross on the ancient stone wall behind it. One candle. One cross. One call. Wednesday is the perfect day to be that candle. By midweek, the people around you -- at work, at home, in your community -- may be tired, frustrated, discouraged. The fresh resolve of Monday morning has been tested by Tuesday's realities. Into that Wednesday darkness, you can be what this candle is: a single point of warm light that makes the darkness visible and the cross recognizable. Matthew 5:14-16 -- the words of Jesus: "You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven." Notice that Jesus does not say "be a light" as a command to manufacture something you don't have. He says "you ARE the light of the world" -- it is already in you. The candle does not create the flame; it carries it. You carry the light of Christ into every Wednesday conversation, every email, every interaction.
