About this image
Lord Kubera — the divine treasurer of the gods and guardian of all earthly wealth — depicted in his full opulent glory in this Akshaya Tritiya wallpaper. The pot-bellied deity is shown seated on a throne of gold coins, holding in one hand his legendary mongoose that vomits precious jewels on command. His corpulent body is adorned with golden ornaments from crown to toe, and his expression radiates the self-satisfied contentment of one who has mastered the material realm. Kubera rules over the North direction as one of the eight Ashta-Dikpalas, and his legendary capital Alaka (also called Kuberapuri) is described in the Puranas as floating above the Himalayas, built entirely of gold. In the Ramayana, Kubera was Ravana's elder half-brother — Ravana defeated him and seized Lanka, which had originally been Kubera's kingdom. Despite this defeat, Kubera is worshipped as the divine banker who controls all gold, gems, and buried treasures in the earth. Akshaya Tritiya is considered the single most auspicious day to invoke Kubera's blessings — devotees offer coins, gold, and prayers to the god of wealth, believing that wealth accumulated on this day will grow inexhaustibly throughout the year. The mongoose (nakula) vomiting jewels is Kubera's most distinctive attribute, symbolizing the ability to produce wealth effortlessly from within. Free HD download for phone and desktop.
