Lord Murugan, known as Kartikeya in North India and Subramanya in Karnataka, is the warrior god and commander of the celestial army. Son of Shiva and Parvati, he rides the peacock Paravani and wields the Vel -- a divine lance gifted by his mother Shakti. Tamil Nadu considers Murugan its patron deity, with six sacred abodes (Arupadaiveedu) drawing millions of pilgrims annually. The festival of Thaipusam, celebrated with spectacular kavadi processions in Malaysia and Singapore, honors Murugan with extraordinary devotion.
