Son of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati, he vanquished the invincible demon Surapadman with his divine Vel — a lance gifted by his mother Shakti. The peacock he rides was originally the demon Surapadman himself, whom Murugan transformed into his vehicle after defeating him, symbolizing the triumph of divine grace over demonic pride. Murugan is worshipped with extraordinary devotion in Tamil Nadu, Sri Lanka, Malaysia, and Singapore, with six sacred abodes (Arupadaiveedu) dedicated to him across Tamil Nadu.
