Raphael's name means "God heals" in Hebrew. His story is told in the Book of Tobit, where he disguises himself as a human companion named Azariah to guide the young Tobias on a dangerous journey. Along the way, Raphael heals Tobias's father's blindness and drives away a demon tormenting Sarah, Tobias's future wife. Raphael is the patron saint of travelers, the blind, nurses, physicians, and medical workers. He is traditionally depicted with the symbols of his story: a staff (the journey), a fish (the cure for blindness), and green robes (healing and nature).
