About this image
Goddess Lakshmi in her most magnificent Diwali form — standing on a fully bloomed pink lotus in a sacred pool, four arms outstretched, lower hands showering a cascade of gold coins, upper hands holding lotus flowers in offering. She wears an elaborate red and gold silk sari with heavy temple jewelry — the complete iconographic expression of Shri, the divine prosperity. Hundreds of lit floating diyas on the water surface surround her like a galaxy of earthly stars, their golden reflections creating a mirror image below. In the background, divine elephants — Lakshmi's traditional iconographic companions — perform abhishekam (sacred bathing) by pouring streams of water from their trunks, echoing the ancient coronation imagery of Gajah Lakshmi. Lakshmi is not merely the goddess of wealth in the narrow financial sense. The Sanskrit word "Lakshmi" comes from the root "laksha" meaning goal, aim, and also one who perceives the goal. She represents all forms of auspiciousness, beauty, grace, abundance, and right living. The eight forms of Lakshmi (Ashta Lakshmi) include Adi Lakshmi (primal), Dhanya Lakshmi (grain/food), Santana Lakshmi (progeny), Vijaya Lakshmi (victory), Vidya Lakshmi (knowledge), Dhana Lakshmi (wealth), Gaja Lakshmi (elephants/royalty), and Vara Lakshmi (boons). On Diwali, all eight blessings are invoked. Free HD download.
