About this image
Goddess Lakshmi and Lord Ganesha are worshipped together on Diwali night in a tradition that unites the blessings of prosperity and the removal of obstacles for the year ahead. This HD Diwali wallpaper depicts both deities in their full devotional glory: Lakshmi on the right with golden complexion, red and gold sari, seated on a lotus, gold coins flowing from her lower hands, upper hands in the blessing mudra; Ganesha on the left with his distinctive elephant head, holding a modak sweet and his broken tusk, wearing gold crown and ornaments. Both are seated on ornate golden thrones with lit diyas arranged in a semicircle before them, their combined divine golden aura illuminating the dark background. The tradition of worshipping Lakshmi and Ganesha together on Diwali (Lakshmi Puja) is observed by most Hindu families in India and the diaspora. The theological reason is elegant: you cannot welcome prosperity (Lakshmi) without first removing the obstacles that block it (Ganesha). Ganesha must be invoked first in any Hindu puja, but on Diwali night, both are honored together as a divine partnership. Many Indian businesses perform their annual Lakshmi Puja on Diwali night, opening new account books and invoking blessings for the commercial year ahead.
