Govardhan Puja Wallpapers

Govardhan Puja, also called Annakut, is celebrated on the day after Diwali and commemorates Lord Krishna lifting the Govardhan Hill on his little finger to protect the villagers of Vrindavan from torrential rains sent by Indra. The festival is widely observed in Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Maharashtra, and other North Indian states. Devotees create small hillocks of cow dung representing Govardhan Hill and decorate them with flowers. In Mathura and Vrindavan, elaborate Annakut (mountain of food) offerings are prepared with hundreds of dishes placed before Krishna deities. The festival emphasizes the importance of nature and gratitude for the bounty of the earth. In Gujarat, it coincides with the Gujarati New Year. Temples across India, particularly ISKCON temples, prepare massive food offerings with 56 varieties of dishes known as Chhappan Bhog.
