Panguni Uthiram is a significant Tamil Hindu festival celebrated on the full moon day of the Tamil month Panguni (March-April), when the star Uthiram (Uttara Phalguni) is ascendant. It celebrates the divine marriages of several Hindu deities: Shiva and Parvati, Murugan and Deivayani, and Vishnu with Andal. The festival is grandly celebrated at major temples across Tamil Nadu, including the Meenakshi Amman Temple in Madurai, Srirangam Ranganathaswamy Temple, and Kapaleeshwarar Temple in Chennai. Elaborate wedding ceremonies of the deities are performed with full traditional rituals, and devotees participate as if attending a real wedding. The temple chariots (Ther) are drawn through the streets in magnificent processions. Many devotees choose this auspicious day for their own weddings. The festival is also observed in Kerala, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, and by Tamil diaspora communities worldwide.
