Rath Yatra Wallpapers

Rath Yatra is the grand chariot festival of Lord Jagannath held annually in Puri, Odisha, and is one of the oldest and largest religious processions in the world. The deities Jagannath, Balabhadra, and Subhadra are placed on three massive wooden chariots and pulled by thousands of devotees through the streets from the Jagannath Temple to the Gundicha Temple, a distance of about three kilometers. The main chariot of Jagannath, called Nandighosa, stands 45 feet tall with 16 wheels. The English word juggernaut derives from Jagannath, reflecting the unstoppable force of the massive chariots. The festival attracts over a million pilgrims to Puri each year. Rath Yatra celebrations also take place in Ahmedabad (Gujarat), where it is equally grand, and in Kolkata, Ranchi, and cities worldwide. The festival falls on the second day of the bright half of the month Ashadha and represents the annual journey of the deities to visit their birthplace.
