About this image
The founding myth of Onam comes alive in this dramatic HD wallpaper: King Mahabali descending from the heavens to visit his beloved Kerala, golden crown gleaming, royal ornaments catching celestial light, parting clouds creating a divine corridor for his annual return. The lush green Kerala landscape spreads below — coconut palms, paddy fields, backwaters — the landscape Mahabali rules in memory and in the hearts of his people. In the distant sky, the tiny silhouette of Vamana (the dwarf Brahmin avatar of Vishnu) can be seen — a poetic reminder of the bittersweet story behind the celebration. The story of King Mahabali is one of the most poignant in Hindu mythology. He was a virtuous, beloved king who ruled a golden age — an era of perfect equality, abundance, and justice. His kingdom knew no poverty, no disease, no discrimination. But his growing power alarmed the gods. Vishnu incarnated as Vamana, a dwarf Brahmin, and asked Mahabali for three paces of land. When Mahabali agreed, Vamana grew to cosmic size and covered the entire universe in two steps. For the third step, Mahabali offered his own head — and Vishnu, honoring his devotion, pressed him into the underworld but granted him one boon: to visit his people annually. Kerala celebrates this annual visit as Onam — welcoming home their most beloved king. Free HD download.
