Lord Shiva in the deepest state of samadhi -- absolute meditative absorption -- seated in a Himalayan cave. His blue skin glows softly in the dim mystical light, third eye calm and peaceful, crescent moon a gentle sliver in his matted hair. Rudraksha beads hang from his neck as smoke from the dhuni (sacred fire) rises in spiraling patterns around him. The oil painting style adds warmth and texture to this intimate scene of the divine yogi in his most contemplative state. Samadhi is the eighth and final limb of Patanjali's yoga -- the state where the meditator, the meditation, and the object of meditation merge into one. Shiva is considered the Adi Yogi (first yogi) who taught this practice to humanity.
