About this image
Women stand waist-deep in the sacred waters of the river in this breathtaking Chhath Puja wallpaper, performing the Sandhya Arghya — the sunset offering to the Sun God. They wear traditional red and yellow sarees, holding brass puja plates with lit diyas and fruits raised above their heads toward the massive orange-red sun disc sinking into the horizon. The sun's reflection creates a long golden path across the water surface directly toward the devotees, as if Surya himself is extending a divine road of light to receive their offerings. The silhouettes of other devotees line the riverbank behind them. Deep purple and crimson sky fades to darkness above, creating a theatrical backdrop for one of India's most visually spectacular religious observances. Chhath Puja is a four-day festival dedicated to Surya (the Sun God) and Chhathi Maiya (the sixth manifestation of Shakti), celebrated primarily in Bihar, Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh, and the Indian diaspora worldwide. It is the only Vedic festival in which worship is offered directly to the setting sun (Sandhya Arghya) and the rising sun (Usha Arghya). Chhath is believed to be one of the oldest Vedic festivals still in continuous practice, with references in both the Rig Veda and the Mahabharata. No priest is required — devotees (especially women) observe strict fasting and maintain purity for 36 hours. Free HD download for Chhath Puja.
