Maha Navami is the ninth and most significant day of Navratri, falling just before Vijayadashami. It is dedicated to the worship of Goddess Durga in her most powerful form and is considered the climax of the Navratri celebrations. In South India, it is celebrated as Ayudha Puja and Saraswati Puja, where tools, vehicles, instruments, and books are worshipped and decorated with flowers. Factories and workshops are cleaned and machinery is worshipped in Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Andhra Pradesh. In West Bengal, Maha Navami features the most elaborate rituals of Durga Puja, including the Sandhi Puja performed at the junction of Ashtami and Navami. In North India, the Kanya Puja tradition involves worshipping nine young girls representing the nine forms of Durga, washing their feet and offering them food and gifts as manifestations of the goddess.
