The ornate inner sanctum of the Golden Temple — gold-plated walls adorned with intricate floral patterns and precious stone inlays. The Guru Granth Sahib (the eternal Guru of the Sikhs) rests on the beautifully decorated Palki Sahib (throne). The Guru Granth Sahib is treated with the highest reverence — it is ceremonially opened each morning, read continuously throughout the day, and ceremonially closed and put to rest each night. This living scripture contains 1,430 pages of hymns composed by six Sikh Gurus and 15 Hindu and Muslim saints.
