About this image
The historic moment of the creation of the Khalsa at Anandpur Sahib on Baisakhi day, 1699. Guru Gobind Singh Ji stands with a drawn sword before a large gathering, while the five volunteers (Panj Pyare — the Five Beloved Ones) kneel before him. This was the day that transformed Sikhism — Guru Gobind Singh asked for volunteers willing to give their heads for their faith. Five brave men stepped forward, and they were initiated as the first members of the Khalsa with Amrit (baptism), establishing the distinct Sikh identity that continues today.
