About this image
Mouths open, arms wide, feet bare on the grass, water droplets catching the golden hour light like liquid diamonds -- kids running through a backyard sprinkler in summer, completely and unreservedly alive. This is what Jesus meant by "life to the full." Not quiet contemplation. Not measured piety. This. The full-body, full-voice, full-speed experience of being so alive that you forget to be self-conscious. Children are the natural theologians of John 10:10 because they do not yet know how to ration their joy. They do not save some enthusiasm for later. They do not calculate the appropriate level of delight. They run into the water and scream with pleasure because the water is cold and the sun is warm and their legs work and the world is good. Jesus said, "Unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven" (Matthew 18:3). Perhaps this is part of what He meant -- the willingness to experience life at full volume, without the adult calculations of dignity and restraint that we mistake for maturity. The sprinkler is just water from a garden hose. But through the eyes of a child in summer, it is Niagara Falls, it is a rainstorm, it is the most exciting thing that has happened all week. Abundant life is not about extraordinary circumstances -- it is about extraordinary engagement with ordinary moments. Download this HD wallpaper for your phone or desktop.
