Lord Murugan, also known as Kartikeya, Subramanya, Skanda, and Shanmuga, is one of the most beloved deities in South Indian Hinduism. As the son of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati, and the brother of Lord Ganesha, Murugan holds a special place in Tamil culture and spirituality. He is the commander of the divine army (Deva Senadhipati) and the embodiment of youthful valor, wisdom, and divine grace.

Murugan is inseparable from his sacred Vel (lance), gifted by his mother Parvati to vanquish the demon Surapadman. The Vel represents Shakti — the power of knowledge that pierces through ignorance. His peacock mount (Mayil) symbolizes the conquest of ego, while his rooster flag (Seval Kodi) heralds the dawn of spiritual awakening.

The six abodes of Murugan — the Arupadai Veedu — are among the most sacred pilgrimage sites in Tamil Nadu: Thiruparankundram, Tiruchendur, Palani, Swamimalai, Thiruthani, and Pazhamudircholai. Each temple celebrates a different aspect of Murugan, from the warrior who defeated Surapadman to the child sage who taught the meaning of "Om" to his own father, Lord Shiva.

Thaipusam and Skanda Sashti are the major festivals dedicated to Lord Murugan, drawing millions of devotees who undertake Kavadi Attam and other acts of devotion. Our collection features Murugan in his many beloved forms — Bala Murugan (the divine child), Vel Murugan with his iconic lance, Palani Dandayuthapani standing atop the sacred hill, and Murugan with his consorts Valli and Devasena.
