In the ancient world, a sealed contract was not a suggestion. It was enforceable. Breaking a sealed covenant invited legal consequences, social ruin, and in some cultures, death. Luke 1:37 presents God's word in precisely this category: binding, sealed, unbreakable. The context deepens the claim. Gabriel has just announced two impossible pregnancies -- Elizabeth's in old age and Mary's without a father. These are not metaphorical impossibilities. They are biological ones. And Gabriel does not attempt to make them sound reasonable. He simply states the principle: with God, no word is powerless. The Septuagint, the Greek translation of the Hebrew Bible that Luke's audience knew well, uses nearly identical language in Genesis 18:14 when God asks Abraham, "Is anything too hard for the LORD?" Sarah laughed at that question. She was ninety years old. But Isaac was born anyway, and his name means "laughter" -- a permanent reminder that God's word outlasts human doubt.
