Mark 11:24 contains one of the most psychologically demanding instructions in all of scripture: believe that you have already received what you are asking for. Not "believe you will receive." Have received. Past tense. The Greek verb is elabete, aorist indicative -- a completed action. Jesus is asking his disciples to hold two realities simultaneously: the request is still in transit, and the answer is already yours. This verse comes the morning after Jesus cursed the fig tree, which the disciples found withered to its roots by the next day. Peter is astonished. Jesus is not. He tells them this is how faith works: you speak to the obstacle, you pray, and you consider it done before you see it done. The country road in this wallpaper stretches toward a horizon you cannot see, but the mailbox stands in quiet confidence. The message is sent. The system is reliable. The response is on its way.
