Matthew 11:28-30 is one continuous invitation: "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light." The progression matters. First: come. Second: take my yoke -- which sounds contradictory until you understand that a yoke is designed for two. Christ does not remove the work; He shares it. His yoke is easy because He bears the greater weight. Augustine of Hippo, writing in the 4th century, understood this verse as the foundation of Christian peace: "You have made us for yourself, O Lord, and our hearts are restless until they rest in you." The restlessness that drives modern life -- the constant scrolling, checking, performing, competing -- is the very weariness Christ addresses.
