The Bhagavata Purana describes this scene with profound theological humor: every time Yashoda ties a rope around Krishna's waist, she finds it is two fingers too short. She joins rope after rope, borrowing from neighbors until an enormous length of rope has been gathered, yet it remains two fingers short. This paradox reveals the nature of the infinite: no amount of material effort can bind the Supreme Lord — He who contains the entire universe within Himself cannot be contained by any rope. Yet when Yashoda persists with exhausted determination, sweat dripping from her brow, Krishna allows Himself to be bound, not by the rope but by her pure devotional love.
