About this image

This tender wallpaper depicts one of the most philosophically rich episodes from Krishna's childhood — the Damodar Leela, where Mother Yashoda attempts to tie the naughty butter thief to a wooden mortar as punishment for breaking yet another butter pot. The Bhagavata Purana describes this scene with profound theological humor: every time Yashoda ties a rope around Krishna's waist, she finds it is two fingers too short. She joins rope after rope, borrowing from neighbors until an enormous length of rope has been gathered, yet it remains two fingers short. This paradox reveals the nature of the infinite: no amount of material effort can bind the Supreme Lord — He who contains the entire universe within Himself cannot be contained by any rope. Yet when Yashoda persists with exhausted determination, sweat dripping from her brow, Krishna allows Himself to be bound, not by the rope but by her pure devotional love. The image captures this beautiful domestic scene: Yashoda with a loving yet determined expression, little Krishna with tear-streaked but playful eyes, and the impossibly short rope between them. This form of Krishna, known as Damodara meaning "one whose belly is bound by rope," is especially worshipped during the month of Kartik. The name reminds devotees that God willingly becomes captive to genuine love. Free HD download for phone and desktop.
