About this image
A powerful dual-panel depiction of the most pivotal moment in Sikh history — Guru Gobind Singh Ji's creation of the Khalsa at Anandpur Sahib on Baisakhi day, April 13, 1699. In the upper panel, Guru Gobind Singh stands before a massive gathering with a drawn sword, calling for volunteers willing to sacrifice their lives for their faith. In the lower panel, the five brave volunteers — the Panj Pyare (Five Beloved Ones) — kneel before the Guru in their distinctive blue attire with saffron turbans. These five men from different castes and regions (Daya Ram, Dharam Das, Himmat Rai, Mohkam Chand, and Sahib Chand) were baptized with Amrit (sweetened water stirred with a double-edged sword) and given the surname Singh (lion). This act dissolved caste distinctions and established the Khalsa — a brotherhood of saint-soldiers committed to justice, equality, and devotion to Waheguru.
