Music was central to Guru Nanak's teachings — he composed 974 hymns that form part of the Guru Granth Sahib. The Rabab was played by Bhai Mardana while Guru Nanak sang, creating the foundational tradition of Sikh Kirtan that continues in every Gurdwara today.
