About this image
This is shringar at its most intimate -- not the grand wide shot of the full altar, but a close-up that shows every detail the pujari spent hours perfecting. Krishna's blue face, Radha's golden complexion, both adorned with tilak marks that follow centuries-old Vaishnava conventions. The golden crowns are the centerpiece. Studded with colored gems, they rise in tiered peaks above the deities' heads. In ISKCON practice, crowns are among the most sacred items of deity worship -- they are never placed on the floor, never turned upside down, and are treated with the same reverence as the deities themselves. Look at the eyes. ISKCON deities are carved with large, expressive eyes because darshan is fundamentally an exchange of glances between devotee and deity. The Padma Purana states that simply seeing the face of the Lord destroys lifetimes of sin. Whether you take that literally or metaphorically, the effect is real: devotees will stand before the altar for minutes at a time, simply gazing at these faces. Flower garlands drape over the shoulders, partially framing the faces. The silk fabric of their outfits is visible at the edges -- heavily embroidered, stiff with gold thread. Temple lighting casts a warm glow that softens the metallic surfaces into something approachable. A rare close-up perspective for your devotional wallpaper. Free HD download.
