About this image
This magnificent wallpaper depicts one of Lord Krishna's most celebrated miracles — the lifting of Govardhan mountain to protect the villagers of Vrindavan from the devastating storm unleashed by Indra, the king of heavens. The story from the Bhagavata Purana tells how young Krishna, barely seven years old, convinced the villagers to worship Govardhan Hill instead of Indra, recognizing the hill as the true provider of their livelihood through its pastures and forests. Enraged by this perceived disrespect, Indra sent torrential rain and thunderstorms to destroy Vrindavan. In response, Krishna effortlessly lifted the entire mountain with the little finger of his left hand, holding it aloft like an umbrella for seven days and seven nights while the villagers and their cattle sheltered beneath. This extraordinary feat demonstrated that true divinity lies not in celestial power displays but in compassionate protection of the humble. The image captures the dramatic contrast between the violent storm above and the calm refuge below, with grateful villagers and cows gathered under the mountain's shelter. Govardhan Puja is celebrated annually after Diwali in remembrance of this event. Free HD download for phone and desktop.
