About this image
Incense smoke does not rise in a straight line. It curls, it spirals, it finds its own path upward -- and in that unpredictability, Indian devotional tradition sees the movement of prayer, which also follows no straight path from the human heart to the divine ear. This bronze Radha Krishna murti is flanked by lit diyas, their cotton wicks soaked in ghee, casting the warm orange glow that has illuminated Indian worship since the Vedic period. The ornate crowns on both figures show the Swaminarayan and ISKCON-influenced style, where deity murtis are treated as royalty -- dressed, crowned, and adorned daily. The tulsi mala (basil garland) around the neck is not decorative. Tulsi is considered the most sacred plant in Vaishnavism, and placing it on a murti is an act of devotion with specific scriptural backing in the Padma Purana. The home puja room setting tells a story different from temple photography. Here, the scale is intimate. The murti is small enough to hold in two hands. The diyas are household size. The incense is a single stick, not the industrial quantities used in temple ceremonies. And yet the devotion is no smaller. If anything, it is more personal. This is where the conversation between devotee and deity happens without witnesses. Download this HD wallpaper for personal devotional use.
