About this image
A vibrant depiction of the Nagar Kirtan — the grand Sikh procession that marks Baisakhi celebrations across the world. The Nishan Sahib (Sikh flag) leads the way through streets adorned with colorful flower decorations, while the Panj Pyare (Five Beloved Ones) march in traditional blue attire with saffron turbans. Nagar Kirtan literally means "devotional singing in the town" — the procession includes the Guru Granth Sahib carried in a decorated float (Palki Sahib), accompanied by devotees singing Kirtan, martial arts displays (Gatka), and distribution of langar (free food). This tradition began when Guru Nanak would travel from village to village, spreading his message through devotional music. Today, Nagar Kirtans during Baisakhi draw millions of participants in cities like Amritsar, Delhi, London, Toronto, and New York — making it one of the most spectacular religious processions in the world.
