May all beings be happy. May all beings be free from suffering. May all beings find peace. This is the Metta (loving-kindness) prayer that defines the spirit of Vesak -- and it is inscribed in gold across this warm and beautiful HD greeting image: "May All Beings Be Happy -- Vesak." A golden Buddha statue sits at the center, surrounded by a circle of candle flames whose warm light illuminates the face with serene radiance. The United Nations has officially recognized Vesak as an international day of peace. The greeting "May All Beings Be Happy" comes directly from the Metta Sutta -- the discourse on loving-kindness -- where the Buddha describes the quality of heart that characterizes a fully awakened being: "As a mother would protect her only child with her own life, even so, let one cultivate a boundless love towards all beings."
